James (Jim) P. Carmichael passed away at home on Sunday, February 18, following a short battle with cancer. Jim was born February 16, 1942, in Los Angeles. He grew up in Inglewood, Ca and joined the Navy in 1960. Jim and Linda met on a blind date in 1962 and were married in 1966.

Jim was a mentor to many young people as an Assistant Scout Master, Little League Coach and Commander of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps Haven Division. He also worked as a machinist in the aircraft industry for over 30 years.

In 2002 Jim and Linda moved to Bear Valley Springs where he spent several years as a Ranger. He was a docent at the Tehachapi Depot Museum, member of VIPS for the Tehachapi Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, was a member of the Kern County Pipes and Drums and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Jim was Past Commander of Tehachapi American Legion Post 221 and active in the Bear Valley Springs Veterans Association.

Jim enjoyed photography, playing bagpipes, and all things Scottish. He was most proud of playing the pipes at the Bakersfield National Cemetery to honor his veteran brothers.

Those left to mourn Jim are his wife Linda, his children David, Debra, and Daniel, and his grandchildren Jessica, Anthony, and Riley.
